Privacy Policy

In this Privacy Policy, we provide information on what personal data we process in connection with our activities and operations, including our website, and how and for what purpose we process it.

Personal data is information that can be attributed to a specific person or that helps to identify a specific person. This includes, for example, name, address and date of birth, but also donations, inferences about interests, IP addresses or activities when visiting websites.

We process personal data when, for example, we collect, store, use, disclose, modify or delete it. We process personal data that we have received from you for example to inform you as a Pro Natura member about our projects, to correctly record your donations, to send you our newsletter, to answer your enquiry or to process your shop order.

1. Basic principles

This Privacy Policy applies generally to Pro Natura and its sections and centres (hereinafter referred to as «Pro Natura»), even if not all offices process data to the same extent.

Individual activities may additionally be subject to the General Terms and Conditions (GTC), specific terms of use or participation or other legal documents.

Pro Natura's work and services are geared towards Switzerland. Likewise, Pro Natura's websites are aimed at persons in Switzerland. Persons living abroad are welcome to visit our websites but are not our target audience. Pro Natura is subject to Swiss data protection law, in particular the Federal Data Protection Act and the Telecommunications Act.

Our services are not only aimed at adults, but also at children and young people, for whom we offer events, for example. Persons under the age of 18 should not transmit any personal data to us without the consent of their parents or legal guardians.

2. Scope and purpose of the processing of personal data

We process both personal data that you provide to us directly and personal data that is collected automatically, for example when you visit our websites. When you become a member of our organisation, support us financially, subscribe to our newsletter, register for events or order documents and shop articles, you provide us with personal data which we store in our database or in some other way. This includes, in particular, surname and first name, home address, date of birth, telephone number, e-mail address, type of Pro Natura membership and membership of a section, annual contributions and donations made, bank details, personal communication with Pro Natura, participation in events and orders. Socio-demographic data and other publicly available information as well as data related to the use of social media and our websites (e.g. IP address, details of your device and settings, sites and content accessed, functions used, location details) may also be collected.

We primarily process the personal data that is required for the purpose at the time of collection and for the provision of services, e.g. to inform you as a Pro Natura member about our projects, to process your donations correctly, to send you our newsletter, to answer your enquiry, to register your participation in events or excursions or to process your shop order. Automatically collected data when you visit our websites allows us, for example, to make our websites more user-friendly and to inform you about content that is relevant to you. In addition, we also process your data for donation appeals and marketing purposes within the framework of the applicable laws.

3.  Duration of processing

We use and store your data for as long as required or justified by the purpose for which it was collected. Your data will be deleted or anonymised when that purpose ceases to exist. Please note possible restrictions if we are obliged to store or process certain data (e.g. accounting data), assert an overriding interest of our own or legal claims or require them to protect the rights of others. In such a case, the data shall be blocked, i.e. the data processing shall be limited to those purposes.

4. Disclosure to third parties

We disclose personal data to third parties if this is necessary for the provision of the service or appropriate for the fulfilment of the purpose. These third parties include above all processors such as printers, organisers of Pro Natura excursions and IT and Internet service providers. The disclosure is based on our legitimate business interests, the consent of the data subject or a legal permission. The service providers used generally store their data in Switzerland or the European Economic Area (EEA). If a transfer takes place to countries without adequate data protection rights, data protection is ensured in particular by means of standard data protection clauses or other guarantees.

The Pro Natura office may transfer personal data to other bodies within the organisation, in particular our sections, or grant them access to this data. Likewise, these bodies may transfer data to the Pro Natura office. This enables us to offer all Pro Natura services to members.

When you visit our websites, use our social media channels or receive our newsletter, certain data is collected and processed by third parties. These providers are sometimes located abroad, particularly in the USA, where different data protection regulations apply. You will find the relevant information below.

When necessary or required by law, we disclose personal data to courts, prosecution authorities, regulatory and governmental authorities as well as executive and law enforcement authorities.

5.  Use of our website

Access to our websites is via transport encryption. Personal data that you provide to us, e.g. via the contact form, is also transmitted to us in encrypted form via a secure connection (SSL/TLS).

Each time you visit one of our websites, data about your device is automatically collected and stored in so-called server log files:

  • IP address, date and time of the access request,
  • time zone difference to GMT,
  • content of the request (specific site),
  • access status/HTTPS status code,
  • volume of data transferred in each case,
  • website from which the request came,
  • browser,
  • operating system and its interface as well as language and version of the browser software.

This data is used to make your website experience more pleasant. For example, they enable our websites to be displayed correctly on your device or in your browser. They also tell us which information and offers website visitors particularly appreciate. It is not possible for us to draw conclusions about your person, as we have activated IP anonymisation. The data is stored by our host server in Switzerland.

5.1 Cookies

We use cookies to identify your browser and device when you visit our websites. However, we do not know who you are. To provide you with the best possible service, we use both session cookies and permanent cookies.

The data stored in session cookies enable you to use our websites without restriction. They are deleted as soon as you close the web browser. Permanent cookies, on the other hand, store user settings and other information for longer and ensure optimised use of our websites beyond the current visit. Permanent cookies also help us to better understand how our offers and content are used. They can also be used for targeted advertising.

You can configure your browser in such a way that cookies are not stored or are completely deactivated. For details on how to do this, please refer to the help function in the menu bar of your browser. If you deactivate cookies, it may be that certain functions (e.g. language selection or forms) can only be used to a limited extent.

5.2 Contact and registration as well as other forms

There are forms on our websites which you can use, for example, for electronic enquiries, for participation in events and for shop orders or donations. The information required depends on the purpose of the form. We collect the data that you provide in the corresponding form (e.g. name, e-mail address, telephone number, content of enquiry). When you submit the form, your IP address and the date and time of submission are also stored. This information is used to prevent misuse of our contact form.

5.3 Web analysis, tracking and optimisation

On our websites, we record when and how the contents and functions of our websites are most frequently used or which areas can be optimised. The services that we use provide us with information about website users, their behaviour and interests or demographic information such as age or gender. We may also use this data for targeted advertising. We only have this data in anonymised form. We have activated IP anonymisation on our websites: Your IP address will be shortened by Google within member states of the European Economic Area (EEA) before any transmission to the USA. The IP address transmitted by your browser as part of Google Analytics will not be merged with other Google data.

We recommend that you log out of social media apps and online accounts before visiting other websites. Otherwise, your surfing behaviour will be recorded by the providers of these services and assigned to your profile. Without prior logout, these providers also record visits to Pro Natura websites, even if there is no integration on them.

We refer to the Privacy Policy and information provided by the operators of the relevant networks. Information requests and concerns about data subjects' rights are best addressed to the providers. Only they have access to the data and can take direct measures and provide information.

In particular, we use the following social networks:
